Whether you’re training for your first fun run or your tenth marathon, carrying a nagging injury or simply want to run better for longer, our Running Assessment gives you what most runners never get: an objective, head-to-toe look at how and why you run the way you do.

In a single appointment, we bring together a full running history, video gait analysis, a footwear assessment and VALD strength and performance testing - the same force plate technology used by elite sporting teams - to build a clear, personalised picture of your running and a plan to move you forward.

This assessment is run exclusively by Yen-Chii Wong, one of our sports podiatrists and a keen runner herself, with multiple half marathons and a full marathon under her belt.

What’s Included

1. Full Running History & Training Review

We start by understanding you - your training, your goals, and any injuries, past or present.

  • Training load, structure and consistency
  • Upcoming events and short and long-term goals
  • Recent changes in training - one of the biggest predictors of running injury
  • Strength training, cross-training and recovery habits
  • Current and past injuries
  • Footwear history and orthotic use

2. Running Gait Assessment

Using video gait analysis, we watch you run on a treadmill to assess your technique in detail, including:

  • Stride length and foot strike pattern
  • Pronation and how your foot rolls through each stride
  • Hip, knee and ankle control
  • Left--right asymmetries
  • Upper body and trunk position

3. Footwear Assessment

Your shoes matter.

We review your current running shoes - fit, wear pattern, rotation and suitability for your foot type and gait - and recommend the right footwear, and orthotics if needed, for your goals.

4. VALD Strength & Performance Testing

Using our VALD ForceDecks and Dynamo systems, we measure the strength and power behind your running:

  • Strength: how much force your calf and legs can produce
  • Explosive power: how quickly you can generate force, key to running economy and acceleration
  • Spring: how efficiently your legs store and return energy with each stride
  • Landing control: how well your body absorbs load, a key factor in injury risk

We discuss your running history, training load and goals in detail.

  2. Gait & Footwear Assessment:
