Physiotherapy Brisbane

What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy (aka physio) is a profession that has expertise in disorders of movement and physical rehabilitation following injury, pathology or surgery.

Physiotherapists are trained to assess and manage a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions and work alongside other practitioners such as podiatrists, GP's, sports physicians and orthopaedic surgeons to provide optimal patient care.
Physiotherapy may involve the use of exercise, massage, mobilisation, Pilates and other therapies such as dry needling in the treatment of injuries and management of health conditions.

What injuries are treated?

Our Brisbane location treats many injuries including knee and ankle injuries, all kinds of sports injuries, work related injuries including back and neck problems, tennis elbow, even headaches. If it’s something musculoskeletal we’ve seen it and treated it.

How can Physiotherapy help with my condition?

Physiotherapists are trained in the diagnoses of musculoskeletal conditions and are there to identify the cause of your problems, as well as providing pain relieving techniques. In identifying the actual cause of your symptoms, your physio can also identify the best course of action to help you become pain free and to reduce the risk of recurring injuries.

The physio team at Performance Podiatry and Physiotherapy Brisbane are committed to providing high quality care backed by the latest clinical research and strongly believe in encouraging patients to take responsibility for managing their own condition through active participation in their overall health and rehabilitation. Our team of health professionals are all experts in their fields with years of experience in the rehabilitation and management of injuries from work and sports accidents and in post-surgical recovery.

What should I expect at my first appointment?

The physiotherapist will start by taking a detailed history of your pain and symptoms along with a description of how it is impacting your life. This allows us to not only help with diagnosis but also to ensure we have a target to where you need to get back to.

The physio will do a detailed movement and hands-on assessment of the area and any other areas that may be related to the injury. For this it is important for us to be able to see the injured area completely. Please ensure you are dressed appropriately to allow this to be easy. For shoulders or upper body, please bring a singlet to change into and for any lower limb issue, shorts are important. We do have some available in the clinic if need be.

Once a diagnosis is reached, the physiotherapist will perform some kind of treatment on you. This will usually entail either:

  • Joint mobilisations
  • Muscle techniques like massage, stretching or dry needling
  • Exercises to improve either:

    • Strengthening
    • Biomechanics
    • Muscle tension/flexibility
    • Joint range of motion
